Blythweb Wenhaston 'Doom' painting feature

Blythweb's office is just along the road from St.Peter's Church in Wenhaston, near Halesworth. The 'Doom' or 'Day of Judgement' painting in St.Peter's is a medieval art treasure right on our doorstep. We have long planned to feature the 'Doom' on our website for Wenhaston, www.wenhaston.net , and we are pleased to announce that this has now been done.

Becky, of Blythweb, recalls how very frightening were the various Devils to her when, as a child, she viewed the painting. The Devils, in particular, are painted with imagination and perhaps a desire to shock, qualities which are evident today - five hundred years after the brush was first loaded with paint.

Take a look at the Wenhaston 'Doom' for yourself and read the remarkable story of how this painting was hidden from view for generations - its eventual discovery courtesy of the English rain. You can zoom in on several areas of the painting for a closer look, with descriptive commentary.
