Wenhaston Millennium Map - Panel D1

  [Back to Main Map]
The Map on the Drawing Board - The map sheet on the drawing board is Panel D1, which is the sheet shown on this panel i.e. 'the drawing within the drawing'.

The Map Butterfly - So called because of its intricate map like underside, the Map Butterfly (Araschnia Levana) does not occur in Wenhaston, unlike all the other wildlife shown on the map. Because of its name, it simply had to be included, and as a foreigner, represent the several newcomers who have chosen to settle in the village.

The Compass Point - The compass point shows the weathervane and top of St.Peter's Church tower. Peter Barratt, Map Maker and enthusiastic guide for visitors to the tower, is pictured emerging through the access hatch of the tower roof. The 'Wenhaston World', as seen from the top of the tower, is depicted roundabout, and features of the surrounding countryside are named in the inner border.

The Wenhaston Bell Ringers - As customary at New Year, the bells of St.Peter's Church were rung to see out the old year and welcome A.D.2000.
